I thought that maybe I should tell you something about me. I'm 55, have travelled a lot and have some military friends. I am happily married to an ex-soldier.

I started writing in earnest in 2002, after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, which is why I am a bit terse at times. I work in a Library and try to encourage poetry, both reading and writing: I always mention this site if soldiers say "poetry is for cissies". It is not. It is very relaxing and good for you!

Oh - and I've got 3 budgies!!! (all boys)
Kind regards

Bobbie

Hi Bobbie - I read your lovely poem earlier. Isn't this a great site, I'm a 'newbie' here but I'm really enjoying participating. I'll look forward to reading some more of your poetry. Take care - I'm of for my beauty sleep - I need all the help I can get :)

Hi Bobbie and welcome to our community. We are a mixed bunch and share a love of poetry with a slight bias to the military side of life but we welcome all poems regardless of topic. As you'll note we have poems ranging from serious to sad, amusing, funny, distressing, honest, real, imaginary, love and more.
Enjoy the site and we hope you'll be sending in more poems too.

Welcome Bobbie and dive right in and enjoy the site as it is great. I dabble in writing a bit but also love just reading loads of the wonderful poetry in here.

Quite right to; tell them to try writing some and they'll see their name in lights up here with the finest poems around.

Hello Bobbie, Budgies once knew a chap who had them free flying, great, Remember Geoff Capes the strong man of britain, he kept Budgies, i remember being amazed watching a programme showing him with his budgies all flying around when suddenly his enormous hand shot up and caught one of his birds, and he gently held this small creature and showed it to the camera. The comparison of this enormous hand lifting enoromous weights, and then gently catching a flying bird, remains a fond memory, Taffy

Avery used to make scales I believe and as budgies have feathers I don't think they ate connected?
I used to have a budgie called Timmy - he loved throwing the playing cards of the table when the family played on a Saturday night - he used to throw the 'pennies' off as well - using pennies is as far as our 'gambling' went!!

Hi everyone!! My name is Christie Bowman. My husband is in the US Army and we have 4 children. It has been really hard since he left for Korea, but we are all pulling together as a family. I think your website is wonderful!! As we do not live on base, I search for support all over. It is really hard to find. This is so therapeutic. I hope that I can touch someone's heart with these poems that come so easily to me. Thanks again!!
