Dear all,

I am sometimes terribly guilty of not publishing emails of thanks and praise. I think itís because we just do what we do as an organisation; helping and supporting others and we donít always see how much we are helping people even, dare I say it, accidentally or unconsciously!

Anyway, having received this email today it struck a chord and I thought Iíd share it with you as it is so nice and kind of interesting to read how we help others and never even know it. Here is the emailÖ. The lad in the email requested that if it were published names be changed so I have done as requested.

To all the poets at Flow for all,

I wanted to write and say 2 words which were thank you. But as I wrote them I realised that I have used these words many times in my life for ordinary things. I also realise that I donít know what other words to use to express a very deep feeling of thanks that me and my mates want to give and to say we will owe it to you all for as long as we live.

I am a soldier, my unit and regiment does not matter because I am just one of the many troubled by the fighting, the deaths and the killing. I am now in my mid twenties and I know that lots of you have seen much more than me but I write this for my mates too.

We all want to say please keep doing what you do, we donít put poems up, we donít write many and we donít tell many people we go on your sites to read them either cos we donít want to have the piss taken out of us. Speaking as me, I was on the road to self destruction when a mate showed me a poem he had saved on his laptop, it was this one here. I read it and something woke up in me. http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=2106.

I didnít know anyone REALLY cared, I didnít think anyone knew what we were going through. So I read more, epic poems like these meant so much and the word started to spread and more read them and people wanted copies on their walls and stuff.

I have a favourite poem I want to mention and so do others so we made a list at the end of this email. Tell them all thank you, tell them all thank you again and keep telling them it cos as they write for them they also write for us too.

My favourite http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=644
Old paddy has this on his wall http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=2
This is Stans http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=1124
Lots of lads have this one on their walls http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=1
Sarah picked this one http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=93
We all laugh at this one lol http://www.forcespoetry.com/poemdetails.asp?ID=6
There are more who like others but my time online is running out.

All these poems help us talk through things, they sort of give us permission to chat about stuff we wouldnít normally talk about and most importantly they help us all get through the bad times. So thank you all so much for helping us out, and you never even knew lol.

With top respect to everyone at Flow

I won't lie - I was having doubts about my continued involvement of FLOW, no doubts about my continued belief and support in FLOW, just my own personal involvement. Feeling slightly uncomfortable with new category of Faith, Philosophy etc and the tack it was taking and the airing of frank opinions through other parts of the forum. Not that I don't like a good debate or airing of opinions, I do - just wasn't sure if FLOW was the right place. Maybe I am naive and it is the way forward? Opening out FLOW.
This copied e mail settled my mind completely - we are 'there' for those who need us and our writing/poetry - FLOW's main aims being achieved. Thanks for posting this Mac - good to see you posting again - missed you! I know about a busy working life - but it's nothing compared to those laying their lives on the line in their working life, everyday or those struggling with the demons of the after effects. Let the poetry always be the main speaker - it can talk louder than any of us!

Hi Jan. I understand your feelings on this subject and to be honest I don't usually foist my feelings or beliefs on all and sundry(except in my attempts at poetry?). But as Mac. had invited comments I thought I would try to get the ball rolling. A debate is nothing without someone making a comment to encourage others. Regards Don

I am so pleased that you have got the recognition you deserve: the success of this site is down to those few, that small band of 'brothers', have fought and worked so hard. Thank you, you know who you are.

What a fantastic e-mail, thanks Mac for posting it. I have shown my poems to quite a few soldiers now and they have always received positive comments, I know that they find comfort in knowing that they aren't alone and that we really DO care about them and think of them often. If my words help a loved one get through missing their soldier, or a soldier to open up and release whatever tensions they are experiencing, then every word I have written has been worth it. My poems may have been my release in the first instance, but knowing that they are helping others is so much more satisfying.

Keep on penning those words everyone, we all know for certain now as the e-mail is proof that we are making a difference to so many... for that we should be proud.

Love and hugs
