Sigh, I think that Nell is finally happy about where the furniture is going to be placed in the lounge - less than a week, when it is all added up.

Anyway it looks very nice and a lot more furniture is in than I would have got in and I think I shall be able to get a wheelchair in and around the obstacles.

Some neighbour has complained direct to the landlord that we have not manicured the lawns or done the weeding - since they all employ someone else to do it, I think it is a bit of a cheek - so I shall have to expend some money that I do not have in order to have lawns mown and weeding done.

But then the winter will be upon us and the major works can begin with the removal of several trees and the building of planting areas, fences, arches, pond cleaning and wildlife pond building extensions, topping down trees, removing trees, and generally doing all the works associated with a garden that has not been worked on properly in 10 plus years.

I have put the garden onto the list of gardens for public viewing, under Newark in Bloom in 2010. It will be as a 'Disabilities Accessible and Wildlife Garden'.

In 2011 I intend to extend openings to include charities, e.g. British Red Cross and RBL.

Hi Chris - pleased all going well! Nell is a fine lady!
Loved reading this post - it all sounded so familiar!
A Haiku for the crocs, as a housewarming present!

Crocodiles submerge
Hunting with periscope eyes,
Waiting for wildebeest.

The heating boiler is playing up and we have no heating, not too impotant, normally, but Nell has a Rheumatoid Arthritis flare up and her kidney stones are playing up, so she has had to go to bed.

We emphasised how important it was that the heating had to work all the time, but the landlord has become more and more intransigent in the 3 months that I have lived here.

I think that they are not really looking for a tenant but want someone who will pay them a lot of money in exchange for being treated like an employee and caretaker.

I can see easily why there have been so many tenants through this place and why no one wants to stay here for long, however, I am made of sterner stuff.

Before I retired I was Director of a Housing Association and I have kept up with the law, also my sister owns several properties and is a landlord so we have a lot of knowledge on that side as well.

We shall train this landlord to the ways of the English Law (she lives in America).

Today, is the commemmoration of The Warsaw Air Bridge, a little known operation that was undertaken by British and Polish Squadrons of the RAF during WW2 during which supplies were dropped to those fighting inside Warsaw against the Germans, 1944 to 1945.

Newark Cemetery has 398 Polish War Graves nearly all are aircrew.

Newark was the Command Centre for the Polish Squadrons - 301 and 302.

I shall go to the cemetery at 12.30 and then shall follow the Standards down to the Commonwealth War Graves at 13.45 and attend the short service; it is all very informal as was the original operation.

Thanks Jan, yes everything went off fine.

Nell is also under the weather due to moving to a place where she does not have any friends, so have spent this evening, online, drumming up local support and meetings for her.

Trafalgar Day was on 21st October and yet again Nelson is paraded to the nation, I suppose he was 'fortunate' to die at the battle since his publicity machine has been running ever since.

I am more of the opinion that Nelson's 2 i/c Admiral Collingwood who was in Royal Sovereign at the head of the starboard (right) column and whose ship was first into the line and destroyed the French Admiral's ship with a devastating broadside.

By the end of the battle Royal Sovereign was dismasted and had lost all of her officers except for 3, one of whom was Admiral Collingwood.

Nelson died early in the battle and it was Collingwood who maintained control and moved his flag several times.

It took 2 weeks for news to reach the Admiralty; during that time there was a serious storm and many of the damaged ships on both sides sank along with about half of the 22 prizes. Collingwood managed to get his severely damaged ships back to various ports for repairs.

There are some interesting studies of Nelson being undertaken by the Maritime Museum in Greenwich, which tend to cast Nelson in a rather poor light - I am left wondering whether he would have prospered in the modern navy, given his personality.

I have 4 small crocs, for young children, to do before St Nicholas Day on December 5th, then there are a further 19, which are for adults, which will be done slowly over the next year - they are quite complex and can take up to a month to do one because they come complete with a cloth swamp, furniture and even things like alarm clocks and eggs.

Each one comes with a set of semi-humourous instructions on the Care and Maintenance of the Crocodile, Dos and Don'ts, Health and Safety, Fire Instructions, Flooding Instructions, How to Talk to your Crocodile, How to use a needle and cotton, What type of Stuffing and how to restuff your Crocodile without getting your fingers bitten off.
