Nell had to call an ambulance this evening and by the sound of it she has something serious with pain indicating gall bladder and kidneys and she has had vomiting and diarrhoea all day.

Nell has no bowel and wears a bag on the right side of her stomach on a piece of flesh called a stoma, when she vomits there is an equal and opposite reaction into her bag.

She thinks that she has also torn her hernia more.

This lot is on top of a large aortal aneurism.

I am somewhat worried and do not feel like sleeping tonight.

Chris Green

Happy to say that Nell was released from hospital this afternoon, though she has a pile of medication and is under strict instructions to call an ambulance immediately the pain starts again.

The surgeons think they can do the gall bladder without damaging the aorta; difficult one to call, by the very nature of Nell's abdomrn any operation is going to be massively invasive and life threatening, so they want to minimise any such actions.

Nell is still ill and in a great deal of pain, she is seeing the specialists again this month and next and we hope that, at least, the gall bladder will be removed asap.

Have received an order for an 'Oddment' style crocodile in exvhange for a donation to the Journey Art Group; so 'he' will be soft and floppy and very light and comes complete with his own cushion-shaped 'nest egg' complete with fittings including a cloth alarm clock, calendar, periscope, sleeping bag and portable swamp.

Oddment is lying on top of the radiator grinning at Oddenstein who is pretending to be asleep with his eyes open.

No work on soft toys today, I have been doing the annual accounts for DIGITT and the weekly accounts for Journey.

Just got the Statement to do for Companies House.

Pain is quite bad and my hands and body are badly swollen, looks as though I shall have to wear slippers tonight for the RBL Branch meeting.

Nell has been in and out of hospital again and she is very ill but there is nothing that can be done until the inflammation has gone.

Being apart is horrible and I wish that we could be together but Nell must stay in London until her health is sorted out and I am heavily tied into local groups in Newark. So it is a backwards and forwards over the weeks and months.

Your commitment and support will be a great strength to Nell, next to being there in person there is nothing nicer than knowing someone out there cares about you.
I hope for a swift recovery for Nell.

Nell is a bit better, though the cold weather is affecting her arthritis and her hands are swollen.

Figment has woken up and has been demanding that I take him out and let people see him.

I suppose that I must cost up all the work that I am doing on the crocs just in case someone actually wants to buy one at the real price.

Though I use scrap cloth and materials from charity shops so it would be only the time taken plus the value of the copyright per item.

Stuffing, I'll have to by in polyester because kapok is prohibitively expensive.

My hands are horribly swollen and typing is slow though the pain is quite workable, the rest of me is swollen, so it is the systemic arthritis which has flared up.

Got a couple of crocs to do, but shall have to wait for my hands to reduce before handling any needles or trying to work the sewing machine; as for bobbins - forget it. Grin, oh well got a lot of reading to catch up on.

Nell is laid up again, this time it is the hernia, which is at the site of her stoma, it is up to the rough size of a tennis ball and the faecal waste is not passing out properly so she has burns on her skin from the uric acid and the stoma pipe is ulcerated and bloody.

Just wish these bloody hospitals and consultants could get off their collective bottoms and do something constructive.

Unless you have acute and chronic pain yourself then most people think a headache is agony or breaking your leg is the end of the world.

For me, pain is the singlemost disabling aspect of everything and the same is true for Nell.

We can be there for each other and that strengthens us and gives us a positive hold on life, but it does not stop the terrible depressions when the pain is everything and all that you can feel or think about.

Nell has consultants appointments next week and I have a doctor's one tomorrow.

Hopefully I'll get a change to the anti-inflammatory but I do not want to go onto the stronger ones because they damage not only the kidneys but also the liver and pancreas.

"Do you want to live for ever?"

Has been a cry I have heard many times in the field and taken up by Hollywood for endless reruns of the Vietnam war, while missing the point that they were defeated by people pushing bicycles thru the jungle, each one carrying a small amount of supplies; each person living off the jungle.

We can 'nuke' the land so that nothing can live there for thousands of years, but that defeats the object of being able to have a man standing on that land and being in control of it.

Civilisation?

We are barely 160 generations out of the stone age (presuming that archaeology is right - 2,000BCE), 4,000 years ago - a blink of an eye in the life of the world.

For a significant change in our war-like societies we would need 40,000 years or more before our genetic makeups allowed us to exist in peace; presuming that that is even achievable and would not sentence us to death by genetic apathy.

What of a million years or 40,000 generations, what changes could be wrought then?

What value is a paranoid psychopath - very valuable when people are few and everything else views you as edible - such a person would be very valuable as a hunter or warrior.

We bemoan the savageries in our society but do not seek to find out why?

In the old days the aggression was hidden by the hunting and fighting forays and perhaps the stupid or the more aggressive died very young, leaving the intelligent to live a bit longer.

Now we have politicians who have never served anything or anyone but themselves and their own powergames - not all politicians, but, unfortunately, it is the fashion for now that ministers and prime ministers are 30 second word merchants, knee-jerking from story to story and often in opposition to their position of 30 seconds ago.

Pumping out thousands of laws that are mostly unworkable because there is no money to provide enforcement and most of the laws contradict other laws - a lawyers feeding ground.

It was Disraeli who said that Parliament would be lost once the lawyers got into the cabinet; how true, how very true.
