The pain has been really bad today and my hands are very swollen, as though I had gone through a full boxing bout; spent the day in bed and got up at 5pm and took more tablets and went back to bed and up at midnight and feel more human; just got pain in back and feet now.

I've been considering how one describes a pain to someone else; I suppose that that comes with agreeing a set of standard pain types and their physiological effects.

Doctors still use the 1 - 10, which is fine for people who are not really in a great deal of pain.

Acute pain causes a massive adrenalin rush and your heart rate goes through the roof; the whole body goes onto over-drive and you lose body fluids fast and dehydration can occur in less than 12 hours.

In acute pain the body tends to withdraw blood from the limbs and pools it in the abdomen and you feel more comfortable lying down so that the brain gets a lot of blood for very little effort.

Making noise or screaming is out because the pain is so bad that you cannot call out.

So, if you have the ability to scream and shout then your pain levels are considerably lower than those of someone in acute pain.

Acute and chronic pain is even more painful, but one has got used to the levels of pain and one's endurance is much higher and mentally one can stand far greater levels of pain than most people could withstand.

At the acute and chronic stage one is alone with one's pain because there is no way to describe it to a doctor or health worker.

Acute pain is usually of short duration for most people and most of us forget about it afterwards.

For me a good day is at the top of the doctors' list a 10 everytime.

On a bad day it is 25 out of ten.

But that does not really explain it, imagine breaking a leg, over and over again, and having the stomach cramps of food poisonning and the worst headache you have ever had, and you might just touch what I have on a good day.

My back is shaped like an upside down question mark with my tummy pushed far forward and my legs rotated outwards as a condequence; the sciatic nerves are inflamed all the time from waist to feet; I have fused solid from 3 bones above the waist down (T9 or D9 down).

My neck is fused from C1 to C4 and this has damaged most of the nerves in my face, including the trigeminal nerves to left and right sides of my face and along the mandible, maxilla and eyes.

Was hoping the swelling would go down with some exercise to the fingers but seems to have increased it.

Let me see, oh yes, there is systemic arthritis which affects all the organs of the body with swelling, including the largest organ in the body, the skin and so I have eczema and psoriasis coming up on my skin.

All joints are swollen from the osteo and rheumatoid inflammation and I have bones spicules growing out of my bones and into the soles of my feet and the palms of my hands, hopefully they will re-absorb themselves.

I cannot think about anything else except the pain and what is happening to my body, so I have used this place to write out what is in my head.

How I wish that Gordom Brown and Teflon Tony were to be laid out with even a part of my pain levels, perhaps they would not be so quick to cast blame on people who do not deserve approbation, for being disabled and on incapacity benefit.

Some hope, no hope and Bob Hope.

Pain - indescribable to anyone else - only felt by those feeling it - so they feel alone,

Feel much better and was out and about today; attended a funding meeting for the Journey Art Group and I have some projections to do for next week - why does everything have to be done now?

I think that I have managed to get across to the group, after 3 months of speaking about it, that Fundraising has a capital 'F' and is ongoing.

Fortunately I can churn out this stuff fairly easily from doing Business Planning for DIG:ITT.

Got the O.T. coming tomorrow and hopefully I shall find out about some alternatives for sorting out my toilet and bath, neither of which I can use effectively.

It would be nice to be able to be rehoused in a purpose-built disability bungalow but there is no likelihood of that happening.

The crocs want a swamp with underfloor heating or a large radiator placed flat on the floor of the swamp - three witches and the words, "hubble bubble, toil and trouble", come to mind.

Oddenstein has got burst seams and he'll have to go under the overlocker to give him some more robust stitching.

That reminds me I have 2 Oddments and an Oddenstein to make.

Got all the cloth and stuffing so all I need now is the time to get them made.

The Oddenstein is going to take a couple of weeks to do, because of all of the accessories, but it will be nice and relaxing to do.

The 'Croc and Pop' cartoons are going along great and a set of poems on Newark are nearing publishable stage.

That is about all that is happening in excess of everything else that I do.

Got the monthly Legion meeting tomorrow evening and Newark Foragers in the afternoon after the OT has gone.

Wednesday going over to Gainsborough to pick up an antique Singer sewing machine (paid 12), which needs some work doing to it and then I'll sell it onto a friend of mine in the antiques trade.

I've been granted Fellowship of the British Association of Entrepreneurs, so can put FBAE after my name.

...with a lithp.

Lots of words you can use the 'th' with instead of an 's' though I do wonder how you pronounce 'thk' as in thki (ski)?

I've managed to upload that poem I wrote last week, still up to my eyes in paperwork, hope to clear it by the end of the month.

Then I'll have to switch over to fundraising mode and see about a stack of funding applications for the 3 groups that I raise cash for.

The sewing and sculpture and gardening sort of fits in between times as I get fed up with the keyboard.

Nell is going to be up here from May 9th for just over a week, so I had better make certain that I am really losing weight on my low fat diet, at the moment I have managed to lose 2 inches from my waist and put on 3 pounds - I think that I am muscling up.
