I have been moved to post on this subject for I feel very strongly about it. I do not want to offend anyone, but I feel that we live in a society we deserve. When someone tries to help, people are suspicious, people do not open doors for people.

When I say these things, I am including myself in this, for I am definitely no saint! One thing I really want to know is why do people automatically think the worst, do they just want someone to blame? I don't I see that I am as guilty as the next person.

Maybe we should all think about the greater good and I shall try to be a better citizen in 2012 (and incidentally this will be my 60th year!!)

Best wishes to all for a better year, a healthy year and one of contentent and peace, especially for those for whom the guns have never stopped.

Yes, I agree with you Bobbie, but I think that if you really want to change society then you have to be a part of that piece of any society that you want to change.

In other words it is insufficient to be a simple member one has to be an active participant and you have to be prepared to stand up and say what you think and why you think it and to hold onto that view when under heavy criticism and derision.

On the other hand you have to listen to what others are saying and if they make sense then revise one's views or position and thus gain supporters and allies whom you can influence and make smaller changes, which slowly accumulate.

On my recent foray into fundraising the overall view was that I was without a legal remit and resigning was my only option, which I did promptly - a small blow to my ego but it does not destroy the overall project, it just puts it back for a while, while I seek funding and then put it together again as a complete package and a different name.

Most societal changes involve some financial cost, e.g. wheelchair accessible buses; when i was living in Merseyside we put together a working group got the bus companies, local government, fundraisers and funding providers together and said this is what we want to do, now let's figure out how to do it.

The root of all change is 'the bottom line', what will it cost - solve that and you can make small changes to society and to its' attitudes.
