There have been numerous cases of dogs rescueing people while in combat and they have their own memorials; there are also those animals which were on the military strength, e.g. carrier pigeons, guard dogs, etc.

Then there are the more esoteric duties applied to animals the Germans trained dogs to carry explosives in order to blow up enemy tanks, however the dogs associated food with the German tanks and disappeared off in that direction and damaged quite a few tanks.

Post-WW2 there are the dolphins which the americans trained to search for nuclear devices, to retrieve lost equipment, to carry spy-ware and to carry explosives; having decided that the dolphins were now ready for action the americans were moving them when the dolphins swam away, never to be seen again, which tends to indicate that the dolphins are highly intelligent - I have always viewed american intelligence as an oxymoron.

Hello Chris, Your thoughts on military animals are so true, when i think of all the dogs shot in WW2 it makes me cringe. German Shepherd dogs were shot on site suspected of carrying explosives or messages, i never saw any proof of of either.Regarding your remark about American intelegence, as i was employed by an American company for some 30 years, i agree fully.Taffy

Well, now I wasn’t there during WWII. However, I have read and know a bit about it because of my father being there. We do have some outstanding “American Intelligence” real Native Americans I might add. They were called “Code Talkers.” They were Native American Indians who served in the United States Marine Corps –whose job was the transmission of secret tactical messages in using their native language as a code. Ciphers could not break their code. Although it took years for them to get recognition for their great effort and accomplishment in this country –As it did with many Black American heroes. Today they’ve even made a movie about them.

This makes me laugh, because I do know where you guys are coming from. But by-golly don't judge em all after some lilly-ass buttheads :o)

The Navaho 'Wind Talkers' developed a section of language based on their own symbology and philosophy and adapted to the needs of getting the largest amount of data passed in the shortest time.

They therefore used a form of verbal shorthand that allowed complex ideas and information to be transmitted quickly and simply.
