CRUCIFIX CORNER

To be praised as heroes to a man
past Crucifix Corner you marched and sang
That ladder propped against the tree-
where Christ was nailed for all to see.
The shrapnel wound that never heals
The silence of the poppy fields....

Powerful punch of a poem - already read it four times and will again I'm sure,

Shrapnel wound still seen on the crucified effigy of Christ, at Crucifix Corner, on the frontline of the Battle of the Somme, struck me as being a very powerful image, Jan. Thank you for taking the time to comment...
