COPPER COINS

Copper-coins tossed upon the grave
where Robert Frost the poet was laid.
Though, we labour over words too long
That's how, I fear, most poems are born.
The few are like a sudden stroke
A thought, that in a moment, woke...

COPPER COINS

The idea for this poem came when I read that people tossed copper coins on Robert Frost's gravestone in Bennington, Vermont. Robert Frost always claimed poems just came 'at a stroke' though everyone wasn't entirely convinced of that, at least, not on every occasion...
