Hi all, I was feeling very low this morning when I got up. The gym didn't help and not even a Costa coffee either! The day didn't improve and I got to thinking of my Deb and the day seemed darkened further. It wasn't until an hour ago I read some emails and this one below made me weep and smile with joy, what truly fortunate people we are........

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear members and poets in Flow for all. I am a mum of a solder who left us as our little boy and within 18 months had gone to war. The worry our family experienced was awful but then things got really bad. Dan (name changed) came back to us a changed person and if its possible he even looked different. He swore drank all the time and was so angry at anything. He picked fights cried like a baby when he got so drunk attacked his dad and had horrible nightmares and his moods were crazy. He would not go for help and even when we told his unit it back fired bad.

You have done what no one else could do. Dan visited a mate of his who had been injured and discharged but instead of getting the train home that night he stayed for days. We were so worried but his friends mum eventually called us to say he was on his way home after 3 days like.

When he got home he opened the door and walked up to his dad and threw his arms around him and sobbed how sorry he was, we ended up all cuddling and crying and still didnt know what had happened.

His friend had just sat with him and all night they searched your poems and apparently they just read them loads of them and cried laughed all night. He says he was so happy that being scared, crying, being angry at everyone else who didnt seem to understand him and having nightmares was all what loads of others have gone through for years.

The best bit was your support line who they phoned all drunk like and the person on the other end was great but sorry Dan wont tell us the persons name but after giving my son a bollicking as he called it they got him to get a grip and told him how to cope. If I had money to help you would have it all. There is no price for the return of our boy who has recieved your kind help. Thank you all, so very much and god bless you all, a very happy mother and family x

It's so good that we can reach out and touch someone. That's why I am here.

Absolutely spot on Peter! It is what gives me that spark sometimes and if I didn't have FLOW as a motivator in my life at this time, I shudder to think how I would really be....

How humbling and what a boost for our own morale - bless poetry and the way we harness it here - reaching out, touching and saving - not just 'one person' but the wider family too. Got a lump in my throat now - bless you too dear Mac.
Debs will know about this letter - and be proud of FLOW and you,
Jan
